Can't get the trickster to work

So, as the title says.

I put one part on the toolbag, but I hardly ever seem to have the right part/trap combination.
If I need bangpowder I get blades and sprockets. If I need sprockets I get enhanco stuff and bangpowder.
Even with scrounge I hardly ever get the right parts.

It seems to me since you can only hold two parts (one in the tool bag and on in your hand), you're hard pressed to get the right combination.

Am I missing something?

I'm thinking of houseruling that the trickster can play parts as ongoings, since he hardly ever seems to play any cards anyway.

What does everyone think?

Yep.  You are playing it right, and it isn't the most efficient hero in the slightest.  If you can successfully get traps out, they are pretty interesting.....but not very understandable at first glance for some.

In rewatching the Slaughterfield video, Keith plays the Trickster starting with green items, and that seems to be making a hell of a difference for him.  I'm not real keen on heroes being highly dependent on gear to make their core functionality viable.

One thing I noticed was at the beginning of a HC, the Trickster has an ability on one of his starting items that lets him roll a FD, and on a result of his symbol, he gets to search his discard pile for a part of his choice.  If I remember correctly, the starting card only lets you roll 1 FD for this.  With green gear (which I haven't seen the Trickster's green gear), he was rolling around 6 FD for this same check.  That seems like a drastic change between starting gear and green gear.

I don't see the green gear adding that much fate dice.

I can't see him worth it like this. I think I'm gonna allow him to play parts like the apprentice plays ongoings.
This way at least he plays some cards now and again. It will also stop his threat from immidiatly resetting to zero every turn after he sets a threat.
