General Discussion / Re: How many minions do I need?
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:45:04 AM »
Now, from the opposite perspective...

I think I'm reducing down to 15 minions per race (from 20), 10 minions of elementals, and a single sculptured lair. I don't think I need to fit each and every possible scenario (plus I'm leaning more towards the module style of gameplay)

Besides this helping my pocketbook, it also frees up space (they *might* fit in the box now), *and* means I might actually be able to paint everything one day.

So many Captains do I need :P

Finally launched my card & coin game!
The Pirate Deck - A Quick Card & Coin Game for All Ages

Strategically use pirate cards to board a ship and steal treasure by matching card icons. Games take only 10-30 minutes to play.

a tie?

Yeah, not having prior knowledge, the foam options were overwhelming. But do you think we'd be able to in essence duplicate the Add-on option for a bit cheaper? (I'm now thinking it might be nice to *just* have figures in the box....or at least include *all* of the boards we're getting - seems odd to have some things here...and some things there...etc)

Still wondering if I should have gotten the $40 add-on for the custom foam insert to put in the box. At least then I'd be half-way there....
Since we're going to have to buy foam anyways, will it be cheaper to make your own custom insert for the box?

I see there's a treasure bag in the game. How's that different from the $5 treasure bag add-on?

General Discussion / Re: Metal Heroes?

Sorry. I meant "Are those the final bases for the metal figures?" Or were those the prototype metal figures? I'm not taking anything base-related for granted, after seeing what showed up in the retail base game.

Are those the final metal bases though? (I hate to assume....)

But they do look a *bit* better - no giant gap in the base of the figures standing on tip-toe, the foot plates look intentionally separate from the bases (instead of a horrible attempt to integrate them), etc.

So...are the metal hero bases just as bad as the plastic ones?

I might be convinced to buy the metal figures if their bases looked better.....

Did you vote for that one too? :)

Once your initial product was released via Kickstarter...doesn't that imply you no longer need Kickstarter for that product? (I'm arguing for the "spirit" of what Kickstarter was supposed to be for).  Once you've reached a successful product, haven't you gauged that your idea is now worth the risk of expanding upon it without the need for Kickstarter?

I think for a lot of board game companies, KS provides a unique opportunity for board game development. First off, as you mentioned, it allows companies to get the *entire* line out at one go, rather than waiting 3-5 years before finally having the funds/interest to expand the line. (or, if there isn't enough demand, the game would end with the creation of the base game).

Second, I don't think the profit margins are quite large on miniature-based board games, nor do I think many companies have the initial capitol to invest fully into a board game design/idea up front.

Taking these two points into account, having a successful KS product is not a game changer and these issues will still be there.

As you stated, Myth still would have been produced. It's too good an idea. But when would they have gotten around to producing the base game. And how about all of those extras we got? Let alone thoughts about expansions? And at what point would they have moved onto the next big idea, and left this Myth universe wanting?
