General Discussion / Re: How to make the game more challenging.
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:15:07 PM »
Yeah no real problems with lairs here either. Sometimes the Archer does get rid of one pretty quickly, but it usually has time to spawn at least once. Also one 12x12 I'd recommend doing 2 lairs instead of 1 lair with double HP.
Until we have more structured quests (modules) I'd recommend pretty much always making things harder for the heroes, so put 2 lairs of different monster-types on 12x12, use the Elementals as they are a pain to kill, and make sure everyone plays correctly... One guy in my group constantly forgets to up his threat, which has a big impact on the game.
I like screwing around with the Archer and putting a Hunting pack as close as possible to out entrance in the tile, so even if he can shoot through them, he can't move through them.

We houseruled tile transitions as it was an uninteresting down-time for us, so when we clear a tile, as well as converting droped treasure markers into gold, we do a Refresh Phase and teleport to the last space on the side of our current tile, next to where we're going. It means we pretty much never suffer a loitering penalty, but the game is faster and more fun. I never understood the idea there...

General Discussion / Re: Hero Deck Customization
« on: April 30, 2015, 10:03:46 AM »
The biggest concern I have about customization is what the new JM cards will be like. Novice heroes are not all treated the same regarding advanced cards.

If you compare the Apprentice advanced cards and the Soldier advanced cards, it's kinda ridiculous. Why would the Soldier swap a card that's either a bit useful or worthless if you don't have sometjing else at the same time, when he can instead grab a title (especially the one giving a fear aura against minions) AND keep that huge weapon he found?

For the Apprentice the choice is a little bit thougher at first because most of his advanced cards are good, but again keeping gear has such a bigger impact on the game.

I think the "gear points" or tier system suggested on the front page would balance this out a lot better. But then again, you'd need interesting advanced cards...

True, but if he does that, he can't buff (play positive verses).
I'm not trying to say the item is balanced as I never played with it, but just thought I'd add that element to the discussion.

Rules Discussion / Re: Card Clarification - Tumble

The Movement is optional in this case. Only cards where you hit every enemies you move through (eg Suicide Run) force you to actually Move.

I honestly didn't plan a thing. We hit a threat penalty, which brought Yardu into the game...

My GF also was put off by the amount of minis and tokens and cards... But when she actually tried it, the first HCs were a little longer as she came to grasp all the rules, but by the 5th or 6th HC, she was playing along without any major problems or questions.

She even won all alone in the end, after I sacrifices myself (being the Acolyte and all...) to get rid of the last minions, so she'd be one-on-one against Yardu.

Little did she know she, in my opinion, was playing the best hero for the task at hand, the Apprentice.

2 well placed Glacier's Grip later, she was victorious!

I think that's the best possible ending to make sure she was hooked!

Painting / Painting videos
« on: December 02, 2014, 12:09:44 AM »
All right, since I seem to like making videos, and I also like photography, and did I mention I like board games?

I decided to make a series of videos of the process of painting Myth, the first one is up here
01-Enter the Dragon

Obviously, this treatment will be only for the most interesting minis (think bosses, mini-bosses, etc.) as it is a challenge to do, on top of the actual painting...

Hopefully you enjoy this new series!

Comments are welcomed!

First of all, thanks!

Now, I think what saves Myth's, lets say, less than perfectly clear rules, is that it's a coop game.

It's A LOT easier to house-rule on the fly (or collectively interpret something that's not clear), when it impacts every player the same way, or I should say the group as a whole.

A game like Descent with interpretable rules would be a disaster.

I think you're right there is a lot of fun to be had with Myth (even more so with the KS pledge), but I do hope they'll do a "close-beta" (to use MMO references...) before starting the next KS. I think a lot of the quinks would be resolved beforehand that way. I know I'd be more than happy to help them if they're interested.

Awesome job man!

I have a lot of catching up to do...

So glad to hear, Remi!  You've been such a supporter of this franchise (when it wasn't all that fashionable to be).  Glad to hear you've received everything.   ;D

Yeah, almost everything. I'm missing my elemental captains and rat captains...

I was hoping to shoot a new video about monster priorities, so maybe soon

General Discussion / Re: So how's the game received in your gaming group?

I wouldn't call those instructions, those are reference cards. when I say instructions i mean like the two page spread each starting hero gets in the instruction book.

Yeah, I really thought they would also get those pages in a small booklet, would have been a great addition. Maybe they'll eventually release a pdf of them.

Haven't tried the Trickster yet, but I too had high hopes for the Skald.

I don't think he has to play at the beginning of the cycle though, where did you get this from?

I find that what's hardest with him is he doesn't do much on his own (he's buff/debuff, which is fine), but since most of his cards are circonstential, you need the right card at the right time for him to be effective, and his general shirt range mixed with no move cards is a hard "combo".

I'm still hoping for a fix for him, maybe in an upcoming patch (or homemade if Mercs doesn't think anything's wrong).

I really wished we could have tried the new heroes at GenCon, and maybe discuss them with Mercs...

About the Spriggan, I think he's the most interesting of the 3, but he's really lacking a way to keep track if his summons, either ongoing cards or token with the stats. In the current state, they simply expect you to remember everything. I guess that's one more side effect of not doing blind tests.

I guess Myth 2 KS will probably bring back a lot of people, although I don't know that most current backers will back again.

I probably will, but maybe not as much money.

I myself hadn't been here in over a month because not much was happening, but I got most of what was still missing yesterday, so I'm in a mood to play Myth/read about Myth.

The game has been well received in general, although we each have our own gripes with the game.

Main ones are the expansion heroes not being as useful as the main ones, the weird power creep of the Archer depending on his equipment, lack of variety in monsters (although I just got the rats, cyclops and elems and haven't played them yet), and the big one is how irrelevant deck building (card swaping) is.

Actual gameplay is fun, but I'm sad to say the Skald doesn't live up to my hopes. Maybe after a couple more games...

How do you like the 3 additionnal heroes?
